Susan Gallacher (1946-), was born and raised in Salt Lake City, where she developed an early interest in art and studied at the University of Utah. In the 1970's she began her career as an art teacher with positions in the Granite and Jordan School Districts. In 1984, she established, and is the director of, Kings Cottage Gallery and Art School (now King's Gallery and Academy of Art) where she regularly teaches. She is also an instructor in the University of Utah Continuing Education Program.

She has had many solo shows, highlighted by an exhibition at the Springville Museum of Art. Gallacher paints with oil and watercolor and specializes in realistic depictions of figurative genre, floral still life, and landscape painting using a brushy plein-air manner. "When I paint," she observed, "the weather, light, and fragrance in the air, my mood, all add to the spirit of the day and the essence of the painting experience." Her works also include wood-block prints and sculpture. Her work appeared in the Utah Art Extra-Ordinaire show at the Springville Museum of Art in 1988.

More recent displays include 2004 showings at the Fairview Museum of History and the Central Utah Art Center, and a 2005 display at the Loge Gallery in the Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre on the University of Utah Campus. Her major exhibition The Homeless and Their Shanties was shown at the S.M.A.to much public and critical acclaim in 1998. Many of the paintings included on this web site are from that exhibition.
